Automatic mechanical filtration

Self-Cleaning Rotary Drum Filters for Industrial & Pond Use

Pursun drum filter systems provide automatic mechanical filtration for koi ponds, commercial aquaculture farms and RAS projects. The rotary screen captures suspended solids, while the self-cleaning cycle reduces manual screen washing and supports stable water circulation.

Product introduction

What Is a Drum Filter?

A drum filter is an automatic mechanical filtration unit used to remove suspended solids from circulating water. Water passes through the rotating screen, larger particles are retained on the screen surface, and the cleaning system washes collected waste toward the discharge path.

For international buyers, the correct drum filter should be selected according to application, required flow, water level, pipe connection, installation space and destination electrical requirements.

Working principle

How Does a Self-Cleaning Drum Filter Work?

A self-cleaning drum filter works through a repeated filtration and cleaning cycle: water enters the filter, the screen captures suspended solids, the water level change or control setting triggers cleaning, the drum rotates, spray nozzles wash the screen, and waste is discharged from the system.

Steps 01–02

Water Entry and Screen Filtration

Circulating water enters the filter and passes through the drum screen. The screen retains suspended solids while filtered water continues through the mechanical filtration stage.

Steps 03–04

Cleaning Trigger and Drum Rotation

As solids accumulate, the configured water-level or control signal starts the cleaning cycle. The motor rotates the drum and moves the loaded screen surface into the spray-cleaning area.

Steps 05–06

Spray Cleaning, Waste Discharge and Water Continuation

Spray nozzles wash retained material from the screen toward the waste channel. The cleaned screen returns to filtration while filtered water continues to the next treatment stage or back to the system.

Key benefits

Buyer Benefits of Automatic Drum Filtration

01

Fine Mechanical Solids Separation

The screen captures suspended material before it continues to downstream treatment.

02

Automatic Screen Cleaning

The rotating drum and spray-cleaning system restore available screen area during the configured cleaning cycle.

03

Reduced Routine Screen Cleaning

Automatic backwash reduces repeated hands-on washing while routine inspection remains part of maintenance.

04

Continuous Mechanical Filtration

Filtration and cleaning are coordinated so the system can continue separating solids during normal operation.

05

Application-Matched Configuration

Model families and connection options support pond, aquaculture and RAS installation requirements.

06

316L Stainless-Steel Screen

The verified filter-screen material provides the mechanical filtration surface for solids capture.

Applications

Drum Filter Applications

Different users need different selection paths. For residential clear-water pond projects, review the koi pond drum filter solution. For fish farms and mechanical filtration before biological treatment, review aquaculture drum filter equipment. For full commercial recirculating aquaculture projects, review the RAS filtration system page.

Model selection guide

How to Choose the Right Drum Filter Model

Model selection should start with application data rather than model name alone. Provide pond or tank volume, required flow rate, fish density or biomass, solids load, installation space, inlet and outlet connection requirements, waste discharge arrangement, destination country and power supply.

FAQ

Drum Filter FAQ

Water passes through a rotating screen that retains suspended solids. During the configured cleaning cycle, the drum rotates while spray nozzles wash the screen and move removed material toward the waste path.
Cleaning frequency depends on the selected control arrangement, water conditions and solids load. Pursun confirms the model-specific setup during technical selection rather than stating one fixed interval for every installation.
The supplier catalog identifies a 316L stainless-steel filter screen. Screen configuration and other included components should be confirmed for the selected model in the quotation.
Provide application, water volume, required flow, pump flow, water level, pipe sizes, installation space, destination power supply and quantity. Commercial buyers should also provide fish species and biomass when available.
Integration can be reviewed when the existing layout, flow, water level, pipe connections, available space and waste-drain arrangement are supplied. A model should not be promised before those conditions are checked.
Automatic cleaning reduces manual screen washing, but operators should still inspect the screen, spray nozzles, waste channel, pump, motor, controller and pipe connections according to the selected model instructions.
Spare-parts availability and any recommended spare package depend on the selected model and order scope. Ask for the relevant parts list so included items, quantities and pricing can be confirmed in the quotation.
Send the destination country, quantity, application data, required flow, electrical supply and connection information. Packing, freight terms, manuals, drawings and support scope are confirmed with the selected model and quotation.
